What do water softeners do?
Water Softeners use a process known as ion exchange to treat incoming water. In this process hard minerals calcium and magnesium are removed from the water supply.
What are the benefits of softened water?
Soft water has many benefits. Hard minerals will build up in your plumbing over time. This build up can cause loss of water pressure, damage to appliances, milky deposits on your dishes and exacerbate problems like dry skin and eczema. Softened water also help reduce soap scum build up, your laundry will be softer, and make cleaning dishes easier.
Why do I need a water softener?
Utah has some of the hardest water in the nation. Hard water is classified as any water with greater than 7 grains per gallons(gpg) of hard minerals. Most areas in Utah have greater than 14gpg hard mineral content. This classifies our water as extremely hard and necessitates the use of a water softener. Softened water helps eliminate the problems that hard water can cause like lime scale build up, soap scum, skin irritations and help increase the life and efficiency of your appliances.
Do I need to service my water softener?
A yearly service of your water softener is recommended. This service entails testing your water, checking the functionality of the softener, cleaning of parts if necessary and a resin cleaning treatment.
